Steroids

Steroids: Will Your Balls Fall Off? Cooper Sweeney
When some people think of steroids, they think of athletes who are looking to enhance their performance. They also think that there is nothing positive that can come from the use of steroids, which is not entirely true. We will be looking at how a steroid works, the proper use and positive effects steroids can have, and the long list of negative effects that they have.
To start, anabolic steroids are synthetic versions of the male sex hormone testosterone. Testosterone, along with the synthetic steroids, has anabolic and androgenic characteristics. The anabolic effects are those that involve the growth of lean muscle mass and the androgenic effects are those having to do with male gender characteristics.Steroids work by filling the cell receptors that tell the cells to make new proteins. While it’s normal for the body to create new proteins, the steroids just tell the cells to create the proteins at a faster rate. http://www.steroid-abuse.org/how-do-they-work-general.htm
Anabolic steroids benefit millions of people a year, including those with deficiencies in sex hormones and burn victims who need to build up their metabolism to repair musculoskeletal tissue. They also are FDA-approved for treating anemia for their ability to help the body rebuild blood. http://scienceblog.com/3106/steroids-may-improve-surgical-repair-of-torn-shoulder-tendons/
So with all those positive effects of steroids, is it worth taking them? Well in order to answer that we need to look at the negative effects of steroids. First of all, to counteract the aesthetic effects of increased facial hair and a booming voice you have acne and greasiness as your testosterone production reaches similar levels to those it achieved at puberty. More seriously though is the potential to grow breasts for men when taking certain forms of anabolic steroid. The reason for this is that the additional testosterone can aromatize into oestrogen – the female hormone – and so give you more feminine features. Not only is that going to ruin any aesthetic effects of steroids, but will also probably ruin the enhanced sexual performance for men too – unless your girlfriend is a lesbian. What will ruin your sex life even more though is the shrunken testicles that can result from steroid use as your body stops produces as much testosterone naturally to compensate for the extra chemicals you’re inserting.
In conclusion, it can be said that steroids can help people who are in need of muscle tissue being rebuilt due to injury such as burn victims and people injured through sports. With these positive effects also comes negatives ones. These negative effects include lowering of the voice, shrinkage of the testicles, and the growth of breasts in men. In the end, steroids can be looked at as a positive drug because they can really help people who are using the drug for rehabilitation. The problem is that in most cases, steroids are seen as drugs that are used as a physical enhancement for athletes, which is not what they should be seen as.
